On the 24-25 of August 2017, Civil Society in the Middle East and North Africa met in Beirut to discuss the Global Compact on Migration, which is the first governmental agreement on migration which will be negotiated under the auspices of the United Nations. The consultation was organized by CCRM and attended by 45 representatives of local civil society organizations including migrant rights organizations, women rights organizations, labor unions as well as humanitarian and faith based organization in the region.

  1. Discussions centered around the key priorities for the region including mixed migration, the human and labor rights of migrants, the governance of migration, detention, migrants and crisis, and children on the move.
    The regional civil society consultation came weeks before the MENA governmental consultation organized by ESCWA. A delegation from the MENA consultation presented the outcome of civil society deliberations at the ESCWA consultation on the 26th of September 2017.
